Junior miner Eastport Critical Metals (TSXV:EVI) published phase-II geochemistry and geophysical results from its Selebi-East nickel, copper and platinum group elements project in Botswana, unveiling numerous multi-kilometre anomalies worth follow-up exploration.

The program builds upon anomalies and conductors within the same geological domain as NextMetals’ nearby Selebi mine, a past-producing asset yielding 40.5 million tons grading 0.64 per cent nickel and 0.90 per cent copper between 1980 and 2016, with a resource currently estimated at 28 million tons grading at 0.93 per cent nickel and 1.44 per cent copper, while remaining open at depth.

Selebi-East’s anomalies share a spatial coincidence with the Selebi mine, pairing elevated nickel and copper values in soil with amphibolite mineralization, a combination shared by deposits across the belt.

According to Wednesday’s news release, soil samples remain pending, as does a deeper-penetrating electromagnetic survey, as Eastport vies to tease out the potential of the project’s five prospecting licenses.

Leadership commentary

“The phase-II nickel and copper soil sample results, with their close correlation to the mapped trend of the amphibolite host rocks at the nearby NexMetals Selebi mine, are very positive for the Selibi-East project. Of particular note is the number and size of the anomalies which cover several kilometres of prospective strike length, and which warrant further detailed investigation,” Daniel Major, Chief Executive Officer of Eastport Critical Metals, said in a statement

“The next stage of exploration will focus on a targeted deep-penetrating geophysical survey to better define subsurface targets, with final drill collar locations to be selected following the receipt of the remaining soil sample results and completion of the geophysical programme,” Major added. “This is an exciting development for the Eastport team. The Selebi-Phikwe belt hosts multiple known copper-nickel deposits, including the historic Selebi mine just 7 km from our prospecting licenses, indicating that the mineralizing system has already been repeated multiple times across the belt.”
